Sea La Vie

If you know me, odds are you know that I’m a sucker for shirts with French phrases. When I saw this “sea la vie” crop top at the Quicksilver store in Waikiki I nearly toppled over with excitement. Not only was it a top with a French phrase, but a beachy top with a French phrase. After making a beeline to the rack where it hung, I knew I had to have it. The shorts I paired it with are my absolute favorite denim shorts that I may or may not have borrowed from my high school theater costume closet six years ago. I wear them constantly with all kinds of tops but most often with crop tops. I love the pocket details and the casual cutoff look. I also love that the color of the denim perfectly matches my chambray button-down, which is a hand-me-down from my mom. I pair the two pieces all the time.

This little secluded beach is right in front of the Honolulu Elks Lodge where Ryan both bartends and is a member. When the tide is low it’s the perfect spot to sit and appreciate a small moment of solitude from the crowds of Waikiki. We brought our coffees down the other morning and enjoyed the peaceful crash of waves and the shade from the summer sun before Ryan started work.

One of my favorite things to do (in general, but especially now that I live by the ocean) is to get up early in the morning and go outside while most people are still asleep. There is something so refreshing to me about being able to quietly appreciate the new day. I like to have a leisurely breakfast or sip coffee, or sometimes do nothing at all and just sit and think. These early hours are frequently the ones where my thoughts are the most clear and my mind is the most curious. One of the reasons I’m most excited to move from downtown Honolulu to Waikiki is to be within walking distance from the beach. One of my goals is to make this early morning time a habit rather than an occasional thing.

I hope everyone had an extremely fun Fourth of July!
